Leiden, March 18 2013 - Ziggo has acquired Esprit Telecom for an estimated EUR 18 million, from the Detron ICT & Telecom Group. Esprit Telecom will continue operating independently under its own name for the foreseeable future. The take over of Esprit Telecom is subject to approval by the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa).

The acquisition included Zoranet, an ICT provider that focuses on the retail sector. The company, based in Zwolle, has 25 employees.

Esprit Telecom provides voice and data services for SMEs in the Netherlands. The company, based in Almere, has 75 employees and serves around 5,000 customers. It reported revenues at EUR 37 million in 2012.

Ziggo business-to-business managing director Hendrik de Groot said the acquisition will enable Ziggo to accelerate services provision to the SME market. Together with Esprit Telecom, Ziggo will invest in new cloud based business services, including a new portfolio telephony services, designed for both small businesses and the SME market. The cable provider also sees interesting synergy opportunities, including an upgrade to its next generation broadband network, enabling SMEs to be securely connected to the cloud.
